Guided workflows search the skill library automatically, and the AI assistant runs the installation command after you approve the proposed skill. Use this procedure when you want to inspect the catalog or prepare a workspace yourself. Before you start, make sure you meet the requirements.
Warning
Do not install Nordic MCP skills globally, in your home directory, or outside the current project. Workspace installation keeps the files scoped to the project and available for review.
To find and install a skill, complete the following steps:
-
Open a terminal in the root directory of your project workspace.
-
List the current skill catalog:
uv run https://aidev.nordicsemi.com/assets/skills/cli.py list -
(Optional) Search the catalog by hardware, software, or intended action:
uv run https://aidev.nordicsemi.com/assets/skills/cli.py search "measure current with PPK2" uv run https://aidev.nordicsemi.com/assets/skills/cli.py search "debug a stack overflow" -
Install the selected skill in the workspace-local skills directory expected by your MCP client. For example, to install the
ppk2skill for GitHub Copilot in VS Code, run the following command:uv run https://aidev.nordicsemi.com/assets/skills/cli.py install ppk2 \ --destination .github/skills/ppk2 -yReplace
ppk2and the destination with the ID of the selected skill and your client's workspace-local skills directory.
The installer validates the downloaded skill.
If the skill is already installed, the installer safely replaces the existing installation.
After installation, the AI assistant reads the skill's SKILL.md file and follows its procedure.
